One of the most memorable evenings of the habitat build was three nights ago, when our team was treated to a meal prepared by some of the family members moving into the homes we are building.

At one point after the meal one of the kids (maybe 6 or 7 years old) got up in front of everyone and said in Hungarian “thank you for building our family a home”.

The family members prepared a traditional Hungarian meal, slambuc, prepared over an open fire in a large black cauldron. It was delicious.

We also met the Habitat International (the American branch of HFH) team that evening, who had just came in from Budapest and are helping at the worksite during my team’s last three work days. So far it’s been a wonderful experience being able to work with them and meet more people while in Hungary.

It was a beautiful, productive, and memorable day.
